Video Replaces Teachers

STRATHCLYDE- Thousands of students are learning how to become journalists through the medium of video--causing some teachers concern for their jobs.

But not all teachers are worried. Many realize that video lectures will help free their time to do what they love--teach as facilitators and coaches.

"US Navy 100305-N-7676W-182 Cmdr. Jim Grove, from the Office of Naval Research Navy Reserve Program 38, left, helps students from McKinley Technology High School make adjustments to their robot"

This is, of course, tongue-in-cheek and an example of some of the learning from this top-notch Journalism class run by the University of Strathclyde on FutureLearn's MOOC platform. This particular example relates to my attempt to follow some basic rules of journalism news reporting, namely the need for an eye-catching headline and introduction.

Experienced journalist Tom McGonigley advised: "...use 90% of your time on your introduction. The rest will follow".

The course is chock full of useful and usable information and comes highly recommended.
