Pepsico’s Mountain Dew team feel that being “edgy” matches their extreme sports brand positioning. Did they go too far this time? Many critics thought so. So far in fact, that Mountain Dew pulled the ad and apologized. ”The storyline is so bizarre, it was never meant to be taken seriously”, said the creator.
With extreme sports brands like powerhouse Red Bull dominating the space, Mountain Dew must have been under tremendous pressure to “break through the noise”. Are we likely to see more of this “envelope pushing” in reaction to John’s 3 truths?
