Learning Styles
My preferred learning style is video and short form articles combined with forum challenges and interaction with forum community. I find that to be a more engaging approach during the course itself to maximize value. That’s where the MOOC platform excels in my view. Then later, I will deepen my knowledge by reading the suggested books. So in effect, mine is a 3 stage process:
- see the big picture through engaging video and real world examples
- completing assignments that simulate real-world projects
- broaden and deepen my knowledge after the course with the suggested texts.
The fact that no one is mentioning the book might be an indication that most people are following a similar process. There is an intense concentration of great courses running simultaneously at this time, and I for one am trying to study several Coursera courses, but this one has grabbed most of my time and attention.
