Assignments vs Examinations | What's your preference?

Much of education assessment today involves standardized testing via examination - often multiple choice. There are legions of books on how to improve your probability of selecting the correct answer through a process of elimination.

Personally, I am firmly in the assignment camp. Other MOOCs that rely on a series of multiple choice questions leave me feeling, to coin an up-to-date phrase, “meh”, i.e. cold, indifferent and unmoved.

This course, on the other hand, is like when the British sunshine finally appears from behind the grey clouds of winter and radiates its warmth and energy, lifting your soul to a higher place.

Assignments test your creativity and force you to re-edit and re-edit again and again. Doesn’t that simulate real life? When was the last time a multiple choice quiz helped you complete your next project?

Project-based relevance wins every time for me.
