Stories
I have no direct experience in film production…so at the risk of being laughed off this forum I am going to offer two story lines that I like and that would move me. Don’t say I didn’t warn you… :)
1. One of the stories I like is that of someone who tries something and fails. They try again and fail. They keep trying and failing and become so dejected that they want to give up. But something keeps them going, some inner strength, some fighting spirit. They don’t give up. They try again and make some slight improvement. The viewer has connected with the struggle, with the frustration, with the anger and determination. They’re now fully behind the character and willing them on, hoping and praying that they succeed and when they do, the viewer shares in the triumph, the victory and the feeling of joy and elation.
So this theme would be woven into your disabled children’s home story of a little disabled girl who has so much courage she wants to climb up on horseback all by herself, but each time she tries, she fails. The aides rush to help her, but she says no, she wants to do this. She keeps trying and her parents and the aides at the home start to feel they must intervene. But the girl refuses to give up….when she succeeds she is over the moon with joy and the satisfaction that comes with struggling to overcome, and beating, the odds. The gutsy little girl with the big heart that won’t give up. Her parents hug each other knowing this is the place for their little girl.
2. The other story that I like is say a little boy who is afraid of horses. He’s so frightened he won’t go near them. Then one day he sees another little disabled girl feeding the horse an apple and the tenderness of the horse touches him. The girl catches him watching her and the boy turns away. The next day he watches again as the girl feeds the horse another apple, strokes the horses nose and he sees the love she has for the horse and how much she enjoys her time riding the horse. The boy is inspired. At the end of her ride, the girl sees the boy watching and this time she asks if he’d like to try feeding an apple to the horse. The boy hesitantly agrees and the horse is extremely tender. This reduces the boy’s fear and the girl guides his hand to the horse’s nose. The boy’s face lights up and he beams the most amazing smile. From further away his parents watch and hug each other, happy in the knowledge that they made the right choice to bring their son to the home.
