Yes, I think that’s right. As Slrkku’s Facebook example shows, it appears that it’s better to leave great ideas alone while they’re growing exponentially up the steep ‘slope of expectation’. Management needs to come in and instill some control at some point—possibly after the so-called ‘peak of inflated expectations’. Whether its wiser to manage the fall down the ‘slope of disillusionment’—so that the trough is somewhat shallower, shorter (think Bernanke QE-inf.)—or allow the natural course of events to determine who the survivors are that climb back up the ‘slope of enlightenment’, is one of the really *big* questions.
